The U.S. Department of State has officially approved a Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to the Government of the United Arab Emirates, valued at an estimated $1.041 billion, for Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System-II (APKWS-II) guidance sections and associated hardware. The formal congressional notification outlines a major procurement request comprising up to 10,000 APKWS-II guidance sections configured for both air-to-air and air-to-ground applications.
Beyond the guidance sections, the comprehensive package encompasses a wide array of critical tactical munitions and support elements. The procurement features Mk-152 high explosive warheads, MK66 rocket motors, proximity fuzes, WTU-1/B practice warheads, and inert MK66 rocket motors. Additionally, the agreement covers technical documentation, logistical and transportation support, as well as comprehensive engineering, training, and technical services provided by the U.S. Government and the primary contractor, BAE Systems, Inc. based in Nashua, New Hampshire.
This strategic procurement aims to bolster the UAE’s defense capabilities against contemporary and emerging regional threats while enhancing military interoperability with U.S. forces. According to defense analysts, integrating these precision-guided systems will maintain regional stability without altering the fundamental military balance, reinforcing the UAE’s posture as a key defense partner in the Middle East.
